Saying no, and what to do when you're not sure
Saying no is part of every healthy relationship, including when you are unsure. Here is how to pause, decline and check in.
You are allowed to say no at any point, including when you aren't sure what you want. Pausing is a healthy choice, and it's easier to say when you know it is welcome.
Saying no clearly
A short, direct answer is often the clearest. You don't need to give reasons. "Not right now" or "I'd like to stop" are complete sentences.
When you're unsure
Pause, check how your body feels, and say that you need more time. A good partner will respect that and won't push you to decide quickly.
After saying no
Notice how your partner responds. A kind, respectful response is a good sign. If someone keeps pushing after a no, that is a serious concern, and it's worth talking to someone you trust.
